Tue, 10 Apr 2012 13:10:14Yesterday we played a show at Mesa High School joined by 90.7 the Gold Mine radio station, and I’m so glad we did because it was a great time. Even with the technical difficulties during our second performance, it was still one of my favorite shows. With that being said, I have to thank Mesa High for being so welcoming to my band and my music. Everyone seemed to really love our message and what we were doing, so if you are from Mesa High School and are reading this “Thank you so much for everything.” I hope Jakelle gets better and I hoped that our performance helped bring in some good donations to benefit her.
As for Today…. it’s back to work. I’m working on a new song that I hope to share with you all soon.

Mon, 02 Apr 2012 14:51:03So I woke up this morning around 6:30. And I knew right then that today was gonna be good. Granted its not over yet, but I love the mornings when you wake up and all the way to the bone you just know that good things are going to happen to you. With that being said, today has been an awesome day as far as my life sound/show is concerned. I’ve really been nailing down tones, transitions, and even some new ideas for the show. the only problem is that now I can’t wait to play my next show, so I can reveal some of these ideas I have up my sleeve. ahh I’m excited.
Also, to recap a little, this last Saturday I played a show at the Hard Rock Cafe here in Phoenix. It was a really good show, from stories of being shunned by the LDS community, to being told I was unattractive. The show had all the ingredients to be good. and It was. I had a great time, and I hope everyone who attended had a wonderful time as well.
Well its back to working on my show.

3 More Days
Wed, 28 Mar 2012 10:46:04So this Saturday I have a show at the Hard Rock Cafe here in Phoenix. I’m really excited to play we have some new covers coming your way, as well as just the good ole’ songs you love to hear. I can’t wait! It’s not often that I’m this excited 3 days before the show, so I know it’s gonna be good.
On a more personal side of things. If anyone has not yet had Special K’s “Chocolate delight” cereal. I highly recommend it. To put it simply…. “It’ll change your life” It’s so good, and its not like Peanut Butter Captain crunch where you are anxious to eat it, until you have captain crunched the whole top of your mouth off. Nope, it’s just right…….So next time you are at the store, be sure to pick some up. :) Let me know what you think.

Rain in San Diego
Tue, 20 Mar 2012 10:28:57So this weekend was amazing! Tanner and I drove up to San Diego to play a show with Alaina Blair at Lestats Coffee House. It rained almost the whole way there…. :) you might be wondering why I’m happy about that, but being from Phoenix, it hasn’t rained in a while, so anytime the sky does decide to open up and let down some precipitation, it’s always welcomed with open arms by me. When we arrived, we were lucky to be sheltered by my good friend Kami Shabaz, who that night took us to a St. Patty’s Day Party ( one that Tanner and I won’t forget… especially Tanner since that was his first party). haha If his parents are reading this, nothing happened to him, he handled himself really well and denied all pier pressures on the night, So you all have nothing to worry about. Also that night it was a real treat to get to hang with some other AZ natives who were in for Spring Break, “Sully” and “HG.
The next morning we woke up and ate at this amazing place called the “Broken Yolk.” There French Toast is amazing!!! then we went over and visited HG’s family down at mission beach where we rode pink beach cruisers around (Not by choice) and then just hung out looking at the beach from indoors, since it was FREEEEZING!
Then that night, we played a wonderful show at Lestats. The crowd was great, the venue was great, everyone around was great, Alaina was great. it was just a great night! I can’t wait to come back out and play there again. Lestats, is very relaxed and intimate, and I love the vibe it has.
When morning came ‘round, it was back to AZ and back to the grind.
Time to get ready for Mesa High and Hard Rock Cafe.
Well I have a lot of stuff to do today, and just enough time to do it.

Tue, 13 Mar 2012 13:13:00So today the album goes up on iTunes. Shibby! Also, the website will be up and running, social medias will be updated, and “Skyline Drive” is hitting radio. Geez!!! I feel like a new man! lol A very busy new man, but still a new man.
That being said, I’m very much looking forward to seeing what all comes from this whole thing. I have a good feeling about it.We’ll see what happens. Wish me luck, and I hope you all enjoy the album.

Also, today right after the show I’m off to LA to the Durango Songwriters Expo which I’m stoked for. I’ve never been to one of these events and I really hope it goes well.
Anyways, got a bunch of crazy things that I have to get ready for so I better hope off the computer.

Acoustic Songs at Elevate
Sat, 04 Feb 2012 13:24:00Tonight I’m playing my first stripped down acoustic set. I’m excited to see how other people respond to the acoustic versions of some of my songs. It’s been a while since I’ve one played an all acoustic set, and 2 played at Elevate, so I’m excited for both. Hopefully we have a good turn out tonight. See you there!

The Night at the Ranch

Also, I’d like to say thank you to Rob for having us. Martini Ranch is amazing! And it’s an honor to play there. We are very lucky to have had you all to host the CD release show. So thank you!
Finally, I saw a lot of flashes last night. I’m looking forward to seeing who wins the Photo Contest. It looks like we might have some serious contenders.

I must say, I’m definitely more nervous than I thought I’d be. I figured I’d be nervous, but I really want this show to be good, so there’s a little extra something happening inside for this show. in fact, I barely slept last night because of all the crazy feelings of excitement, nerves, and anxiousness.
It’s going to be a great show though! I really hope that everyone likes the album. See you in a bit.

Where it all began
Sat, 14 Jan 2012 15:30:00Tonight I’m having my hometown CD release show. It’s being held at the Totah Theater, where I played my very first show…….I’ve got to say…Man it’s been a long time since 16.
I’ll never forget my first show there. I was part of a Totah Talent concert. I opened up the show,and was given a 5 songs slot. With only 3 songs in my catalog at the time, I wrote 2 songs the night before so that I would have enough to even play. haha Also, that night was the night I played “Cinderella” for the first time, and the girl I wrote it for showed up just in time to hear it, after her car broke down. I think of all my songs….. that’s the one I’m looking forward to playing the most in this venue. That song was born and raised in this place, and I just have a feeling it’s going to be cool bringing it back home. I’m excited to play it for all my friends and family n Farmington who were there to hear it the first time as well. Heck I’m excited to show them just how far I’ve come since the last time they saw this small town kid.
Anyways, we have a great sow planned for tonight, and since the CD’s got here last night. All the stress is gone. We almost didn’t have them for last night’s secret show at pinon Hills. But now we have them, so the stress is gone and now I’m just really excited to finally get to share this album with all of you. I hope you enjoy it.
Well It’s time for me to go. I’ve got to start getting ready to go sound check.

The Audio Spa
Tue, 06 Dec 2011 19:18:00So today the album was mastered by Gavin Lurssen and Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering. What an eye opener! I had no idea how intricate mastering is and how much they “perform” on every song. It’s mind blowing. They literally take every song to an Audio Spa. It’s amazing! If you ever get the chance… go watch someone master a record. I guarantee you’ll be mesmerized.
Well I’m back to Phoenix tomorrow. I can’t wait to show this to my family.
I’m really proud of this record, and I hope you all enjoy it.

Tomorrow I'm 21?
Wed, 28 Sep 2011 22:01:00So tomorrow it’s off to Catalina Island to play a show, then it’s back to Phoenix until it’s time to master.
Most of the mixes are complete. “Thieves” sounds amazing btw…. It’s nice to finally have a song that I get to show off on guitar for a bit. Also, “Superfly” turned out Amazing! From the beginning I was a little skeptical about that song, but Jesse was bent on having on the record and I’ve gotta say…. I’m really glad he made me keep it on there. it turned out to be in my opinion one of the strongest on the record. So if you are reading this Jesse…. thank you for liking that song so much. :) If it weren’t for you, there would be no “Superfly.
It’s super late so I’m going to keep this post short, but before I go i just wanted to say thanks again to both Jesse and Martin. You guys are awesome! Words can’t describe how thankful I am for everything that you too have done. From studio time at Henson, to mixing, to producing, to make me play you “To The Ocean” which ended up on the record. Seriously, I have learned so much from you guys, and if it weren’t for you, this record wouldn’t be even close to what it is turning out to be.
Well.. It’s off to bed.

Sat, 17 Sep 2011 20:10:00First off I would like to apologize for my absense from the tumbl world. But let me reassure you, everything has been going good.
So the Tracking for the record is almost done. We had Zac Rae come over and lay down some amazing key parts. Then, Mike Bolger came over and put down some trumpet on “Hold on.” The trumpet that he played seriously makes that song… without it, the song is empty. In fact, Every time we’ve listened back to it, all I want to hear is the bridge.
This thing is starting to actually sound like a real record.
Btw, i must also say that Jesse has been really like a big brother throughout this process. He’s been awesome, and I;m definitely glad I chose him to produce this album. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
time to hit the beach to think a while, then it’s off to bed.

Tue, 06 Sep 2011 21:45:00Today we had Drew Taubenfeld come over and record slide guitar on some of the tracks. All I have to say is that “WAVES” completely came to life after he played on it. I’m so thankful that I suggested he take some passes on that track. The steel guitar is the perfect instrument for expressing the sort of drawn out, slow attack, bending notes, that make that song unique. And Drew was the perfect guy to play it.
Needless to say after watching him play… I’m getting a lap steel as soon as I get back home.

Sat, 03 Sep 2011 01:00:00Today was awesome! We got a lot of really good stuff down today! Skyline Drive was definitely something that came to life for me after the guitars and vocals were tracked. I think this song really has the potential to be one of the strongest on the album.
Another song that really had an impact on me today was “Reflections of the Sun,” In an effort to capture the delicate nature and raw emotion of the song, we decided that it would be best to track it live. So we moved all the guitar and vocal mics into the main room, which is also known as “Karen Carptenter’s Room, then turned off all the lights. The only thing I could see from the main room was jesse and martin and a small amount of the room being lit by the back mixing room lights. Then Jesse just pressed record and said “Whenever your ready…” i can’t out my finger on exactly why, but that moment was really special for me. I hope it comes through in the recording.
Well it’s off to bed, I’m really looking forward to tomorrow

Overdubbs and BeiberFever

Because of the amazing Martin Cooke, we are getting to use Henson for 3 extra days. So with that being said we took advantage of every single minute. We started in with Acoustic Guitar overdubbing, and moved in to some vocals. Which all went really smoothly. Hopefully we can get all acoustic guitars, and vocals done by Saturday. I’m really happy with how everything has been sounding so far. I can’t wait to get it all done.
On the flip side, if you are reading this, you might be curious as to why my Title says what it says. Well let me tell you….
Upon enter Henson studios this morning, I was walking down the hall, when this guy came out of the bathroom txting on his phone. Well, because of the timing of his bathroom exit we ended up running right into each other. Who was this mystery person? oh….. no one….. just Justin Beiber! Apparently he’s recording some of his Christmas album in the studio next to ours. Which is pretty cool. He seems like a pretty cool kid from what I gathered in our .5 second mishap. from what I can hear in the hallway his Christmas album is going to be pretty good. maybe I’ll run into him in the next couple days, so I can see what he’s all about.
Anyways today’s been a crazy day and I better get some sleep so I’m ready for tomorrow, I’ll see you tomorrow.
